Rocket League Season 6 Information

Patch v1.37 / Autumn Update was released on September 28, 2017. This update for Rocket League marked the start of Season 6.
If you follow the news related to the game Rocket League you already know that their seasons last for a few months at best. Usually, they last about 3-4 months per season. At the start of season 6, rocket league team decided to run a soft reset on all accounts that have previously placed in any Competitive Playlist. This means that every player will need to complete a set of ten placement matches, similar to when you play in a Competitive Playlist for the first time. Their reasoning for this is to recalibrate the entire player population for season 6. Season 6 will end in early 2018, exact date is not known yet

Season 5

Rocket League’s Competitive Season 5 commenced with the release of the Anniversary Update on July 5th. Contrary to the transition between previous Competitive Seasons, there was no Competitive Skill reset for Season 5. Your ranks carried over from Season 4 into Season 5.
Rewards for Season 5 were Player banners. Player banners, released on September 28, 2017, can be seen throughout Rocket League. Some player banners have customizable background colours, while others may be animated. Competitive Season 5 player banners show a dragon enveloping the banner and corresponding level badge.

Season 4

Beginning on March 22, 2017, Season 4 reintroduced the rankings previously used in Season 1, but with major changes and still using the same progression mechanic first introduced in Season 2. As a result, the skill tiers were completely reworked, and the number of skill tiers was increased to 19, and the number of divisions was reduced to four for each tier. All players were given a soft skill reset at the start of Season 4 so as to prevent the matchmaking issues that occurred in Season 3. Trails are a customization option added on July 5, 2017, as part of the second-anniversary Champions Field update. Trails record the time of boost used while equipped. Unlike rocket boosts, a Battle-Car's trail is only activated when it reaches supersonic speeds.

Season 3

Competitive Season 3 began with patch v1.19 on June 20, 2016, and ended with patch v1.31 on March 22nd, 2017. Season 3 was the longest Competitive Season so far, lasting approximately nine months. Competitive Season 3 was announced to have included a restriction on Party Matchmaking for Competitive play, based on the skill tier of each respective player in a single party. If the skill range of the party exceeded three tiers, that party would not be able to queue for any Competitive playlist. This was never implemented in Season 3. Patch v1.22 on September 8th, 2016, implemented the inactivity rules for Competitive play. Players who do not play a Competitive match for 30 days or longer are considered inactive. Inactive players are excluded from Competitive Leaderboards, and their skill tiers are reset to Unranked.
Wheels are a customization option in Rocket League. They represent a set of wheels that rest below the Battle-Car body, and each wheelset has a unique rim design and tire treads. Wheels record the distance driven while equipped. Most – but not all – wheels can be painted.

Season 2

Season 2 saw Ranked renamed to Competitive as it is now called. Competitive Season 2 began with patch v1.11 on February 11th, 2016, and ended with patch v1.19 on June 20th, 2016. Competitive Season 2 introduced the new Competitive Tiers and replaced the Ranked Points with Skill Rating to make the progression system much more skill-based as opposed to Season 1’s points-based progression. Unlike in the previous season, every player started Season 2 at Unranked and was required to play 10 placement matches before they could be seeded to any skill tier.
Rocket Boosts are a customization option in Rocket League. They shoot out of the back of the Battle-Car when using boost, and depending on the car used, either shoot out in a single or double trail. Rocket boosts record the time of boost used while equipped.

Season 1

The first official Rocket League competitive season was known as Ranked. Ranked Season 1 began with patch v1.05 on September 8th, 2015, and ended with patch v1.11 on February 11th, 2016. Ranked Season 1 used a progression system based on Ranked Points. Players ranked up by accumulating 100 RP within a rank. Going below 0 RP within a rank resulted in a demotion.
Toppers represent a type of hat that sits on top of the Battle-Car. Toppers record the number of goals scored while equipped. Toppers can be certified or painted.
